DEPARTMENT.
The department is made up of three sectors that is
Crop sector
Animal sector
Fisheries sector
Mayuge town council is currently handling two sectors crop and animal sector
The department receives inputs like Heifers, day old chicks, piglets, rabies vaccines, seeds, seedling and pesticides to distribute to farmers under operation wealth creation .mayuge town council has received seedlings of mangoes, coffee, cocoa.
It has also received seeds of maize and beans. This started in 2015 and its ongoing.
Production department is also supplied with seeds under ministry of agriculture like cassava cutting for multiplication that is high yielding and resistant to mosaic pests and diseases
The average size in acres of land being accessed per household is 2.0 acres while the average size in acres of land being utilized for farming per household is 1.5 acres.
OBJECTIVES OF PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
. Promote development of value added industries especially the agro-industries.
- Increase competitiveness of local industries.
- Enhance the development and productivity of the informal manufacturing sub-sector.
- Enhance applied research and technology development.
- Develop and review the policy, legal and regulatory framework for the sector.
- Increase the contribution of tourism to wellbeing and employment
- Enhance agricultural production and productivity.
- Improve access to and sustainability of markets.
- Create an enabling environment for competitive investment in agriculture
- Enhance institutional development in the agriculture sector.

ROLES OF PRODUCTION OFFICERS
- Set up technology dissemination demonstrations
- Train farmers in modern agricultural technics
- Stoking Demo cages/Ponds.
- Conducting agricultural shows and exhibitions

CONSTRAINTS
- The majority of the population is poor subsistence farmers faced with much constraints that keep them unproductive, such as
- lack of finance,
- Insufficient government funding,
- lack of equipment for irrigation and modern farming,
- high interest rates from financial institutions.
- No Laboratory facilities in the Town Council
- No Government Dip
- No water dams, most animals watered in streams and bore holes
- New castle disease outbreaks in poultry are common especially in the dry season
- Nagana is endemic in the Town Council
- Due to high population pressure, cattle are mostly tethered
- Pasture availability and quality are poor.
- Fewer numbers of zero grazing units, fenced farmers and exotic poultry.
- Fewer market for
- There is only one slaughter slab in Mayuge Town Council.
- Fewer milk coolers in Town Council but most milk is sold at farm gate and consumed locally.
- There are fewer veterinary drug shops and Agriculture input shops.
- Poor response of farmers towards agricultural trainings, farmers are interested in hand-outs
